"Chief Executive’s Report
As 24seven’s first EH&S report, this is both a statement of principles as well as a window on the progress that we have made in our first full year of operations.

It’s no exaggeration to say that EH&S is fundamental to the way we run our business. We are well aware of the responsibility we hold and the contributions we can make to our employees and the communities in which we operate. And this responsibility doesn’t stop at our own door. By developing partnerships with our contractors and suppliers we ensure our EH&S performance is first-class wherever the 24seven name is represented.

Our principled EH&S management, resource stewardship and acute environmental awareness have been recognised in 2001, with a clutch of awards and industry landmarks, which include: ISO 14001 for our entire business, RoSPA Level 4 and 16 Gold Awards for safety performance.

These are significant achievements over 18 short months. The fact is, our only assets are our people so our performance in this and all areas is a reflection of the excellent quality of their work.

Sustainable development is an important part of our EH&S strategy and is essential to the way we go about our business. Obviously this is reflected in how we interact with our environment and the care we take in specific areas like waste management and pollution control. Less obvious maybe is the wider view we take. We believe reliable energy sources are critical to the economic growth required to raise living standards and, as a company, we have a duty to improve those economic and social elements of sustainable development.

Finally, a word about who is responsible for maintaining EH&S quality within the company. Everyone has his or her own part to play, but the overall responsibility lies with me and Steve Shine, MD Electricity Division. Reporting to us is a team that comprises Environmental Manager, Safety Manager, Occupational Health Manager and a group of HS&E advisors and auditors providing advice and assistance across the business.

2001 was a year of massive achievements for 24seven. In 2002 we have once again set ourselves tough Environment, Safety and Health challenges, which I am totally confident we will achieve.
